Abstract

1338198 Polyethylene compositions MONSANTO CO 2 March 1972 [3 March 1971] 9665/72 Heading C3P Compositions comprise polyethylene and 0À1 to 1À0 weight per cent based on the polymer of sodium benzoate. The sodium benzoate may be added as an aqueous solution, e.g. during the densification of low bulk density polymers. The compositions may also contain conventional stabilizers, e.g. hindered phenols and dialkyl thiodipropionates, and anti-static agents, e.g. oleamide, lauric acid diethanol-amide and ethoxylated amines. The compositions may be moulded into articles of improved environmental stress crack resistance, and examples describe compositions of sodium benzoate, calcium hydroxide and (1) polyethylene modified with butene-1 and acetylene, dilaurylthiodipropionate and ethoxylated fatty amine, (2) polyethylene modified with hydrogen, dilauryl thiodipropionate and ethoxylated fatty amine, and (3) polyethylene modified with butene-1 and acetylene, and hindered phenol antioxidant.
