Abstract

1337566 Casting processes AIKOH CO Ltd 12 Nov 1970 [3 July 1970] 53937/70 Heading B3F [Also in Division C5] A process for retaining heat in a hot top during ingot making in which molten steel is poured into a mould, comprises adding antipiping material which comprises at least 5% b.w. coffee grounds over the surface of the molten steel after completion of the pouring. The material may comprise coffee grounds only, or the grounds may form a portion only of the material, being mixed with the rest of the material, or added to the steel separately after the rest of the material has been added. Other components of the material are exothermic aluminium-iron oxide compositions, and carbonaceous and organic materials, fluorides and nitrates, and porous and non-porous refractories.
