Abstract

1336796 Filters AMF Inc 17 March 1972 [19 March 1971 1 June 1971 24 June 1971] 7275/71 18497/71 and 29646/71 Headings B1D and BIT Fluid is filtered through a filter medium 20 in container 18 which is attached to a head 28 enclosing a tubular member 10 having internal threads 11, 12 at opposite ends which are connected to pipes for supply and discharge of fluid to and from the filter. The lower wall of member 10 has two ports 16, 17 side by side, but separated by partition 13; and these two ports communicate, via ports 41 and 42 in head plate 29, with opposite sides of the filter medium 20. The upper part of container 18 has a cover plate 21 having a port 26 and a central aperture communicating with opposite sides of the filter medium 20. Cover plate 21 is clamped against head plate 29 which has a central hollow spigot 40 fitting in the central aperture of plate 21. The inner end of spigot 40 is the port 42 which communicates with port 17. A sealing ring 30 between plates 21 and 29 encloses annular chamber 31. When the container 18 and head 28 are rotated about the member 10, the ports are closed and the container 18 can be detached from the head 28 and filter 20 can be removed for cleaning and replacement. Partition 13 may be provided with a spring-urged, non-return valve. Alternatively the head may be formed with a bypass duct 44 (Figs. 3 and 4, not shown) communicating with two further ports in the member 10 on either side of partition 13. If desired, the head 28 may carry a second container 18 at an angle to the first, and communicating with ports 16, 17 or with two further ports, such that when one container is in use the other is out of use, and vice versa.
