Abstract

1335242 Bucket conveyers for unloading ships W J WALLACE SYSTEMS Inc 19 April 1971 [26 Feb 1970] 22135/71 Headings B8A and B8E A ship's hold 30 is unloaded by an endless train of buckets 74 supported on four wheels 91-94 of which wheel 92 is driven by an electric motor 110. As shown in Fig. 8, each bucket has an axial tubular member 82 which receives connectors 120 for securing the ends of cables 76. The connectors permit buckets to be readily added or removed. Each wheel, e.g. wheel 93, has angularly spaced arms 132 grooved to receive the cables 76 which are guided into grooves 134 by horns 136. A cluster of rollers 138 on each arm engages the bottom of the adjacent bucket so that wheel 93, together with the wheels 91, 94, is driven by the buckets. To hold the buckets outwardly of the wheels, pairs of rollers 144 are mounted between the arms 132. Flanges 148 are provided on the wheels 91, 93, 94, but may be omitted from the wheel 92 to assist in unobstructed dumping of material as the buckets travel between wheels 91 and 92. A frame 100 supports wheels 91-93 and a boom 98 which supports the wheel 94 may be raised and lowered by a winch 106. A swivel joint 70 permits rotation of the frame 100 about a vertical axis. A hopper 32 discharges via a conveyer belt 34 into a hopper 60 or on to a further conveyer 68. A crane 22 supports the bucket train and the conveyer 34. Material lifted in the buckets is discharged into the hopper 32 as the buckets move between the wheels 91, 92.
