Abstract

1334647 Pistons LENINGRADSKY NAUCHNO - ISSLEDOVATELSKY I KONSTRUKTORSKY INSTITUT KHIMICHESKOGO MASHINOSTROENIA and LENINGRADSKY ORDENA LENINA POLITEKHNICHESKY INSTITUT IMENI M I KALININA 8 March 1972 10690/72 Heading F2T In a piston compressor comprising a piston 3 reciprocable in a cylinder 1 the piston is sealed by split packing rings 4 located axially between a first labyrinth packing 5 adjacent the compression working chamber 2 and a second labyrinth packing 6. The packing rings 4 are mounted in sleeves 14 and urged outwardly by expanders 16 against the cylinder wall. The labyrinth packings 5 and 6 are grooved bushes mounted on sleeves 13 and 14 respectively. The piston is guided in the cylinder by bearing rings 10 and 11 which have helical grooves on their outer surfaces. The split packing rings and the labyrinth packings may be of P.T.F.E. In a modification, Fig. 2 (not shown), the second labyrinth packing comprises spaced unsplit packing rings (22) mounted on sleeves (23).
