Abstract

1333756 Adjustable vehicle seat backrests H R TURNER (WILLENHALL) Ltd 3 Nov 1971 [12 Nov 1970(2)] 53773/70 and 53774/70 Heading A4J [Also in Division E2] In a vehicle seat in which the rake of the backrest is adjustable and the backrest is locked in the adjusted position by the engagement of a set of teeth on a plate 16 journalled in the horizontal shaft 20 of the backrest, with a set of teeth on a plate 10 fixed to the seat, the teeth are disengaged and engaged by rotation of a cam 40 pivoted to the plate 10 and co-operating with a carrier member 26 pivoted on plate 10 and journalled on the shaft 20 which passes through a slot 12 in the plate such that movement of the carrier member by the cam causes movement of the shaft away from or towards the teeth on plate 10 causing disengagement or engagement of the two sets of teeth. The plate 16 is locked on the shaft 20 to which a backrest frame 22 is fast by a pawl 60 pivoted to the frame 22, and engaged in a housing 24 fast with the plate 16. The backrest frame 22 may be thrown forwardly to facilitate access behind the seat without disengagement of the two sets of teeth by releasing the pawl from the housing.
