Abstract

1333621 Road clearing apparatus G HEIDT 19 Jan 1971 [31 Jan 1970] 2504/71 Heading E1G In a road sweeping machine of the kind comprising a vehicle F equipped with rotary brooms B and a device for removing the swept up dirt, a 'scraper blade 1 for scraping the gutter is secured to radially directed end portions of a helical coil spring which in turn is secured centrally to a rubber spring device 7 to an arm supported by the vehicle chassis, the arm being secured to a second metal-rubber spring device 8 which is adjustable both angularly and axially to vary the pressure of the blade 1 against the road surface of the gutter and the lateral position of the blade 1, respectively. A fluid-pressure cylinder 10, e.g. a compressed-air cylinder, effects the angular adjustment, a second cylinder 13 being provided to shift the spring device 8, and hence the blade 1, laterally of the vehicle. The helical torsion spring 2 is secured to the spring device 7 detachably, by a bolt 5, so that where a flat paved area without a gutter is to be cleared a skimming blade (15, Fig. 2, not shown) may replace the scraper blade 1, a shank (16) replacing the bolt 5.
