Abstract

1333202 Boots &c BRITISH UNITED SHOE MACHINERY CO Ltd 3 Dec 1970 [4 Dec 1969 20 March 1970 17 June 1970] 59212/ 69 13535/70 and 29275/70 Heading A3B A heel band for a back-part moulding or lasting machine includes a body portion 20 of horseshoe shape and a lining 22 of a thermoplastic material having a low coefficient of friction, the body portion 20 consisting of a solid, relatively incompressible material 26 in the featherline region and of a foamed, compressible material 28 in the remaining regions. The body portion 20 is enclosed by a spring steel backing band 24 and consists of solid polyurethane 26 and foamed polyurethane 28, the solid part 26 being deeper at the apex than at the ends of the band. The lining 22 is preferably ultar-high molecular weight polyethylene. The featherline region of the lining 22 may be additionally supported by an insert (not shown) embedded in the part 26, the insert consisting of spring steel, aluminium or hard plastics, such as nylon.
