Abstract

1333143 Tumbler dryers AUTOMATIONS INTERNATIONAL (UK) Ltd 20 Dec 1971 [6 Jan 1971] 715/71 Heading F4G In order for a tumbler dryer to attain its operating temperature more rapidly, the air stream passing through the drum may be restricted by a member movable between open and restricting positions by means responsive to the temperature of air leaving the drum. In Figs. 1 and 2, the restrictor member is a pivoted plate 11 movable by means of a solenoid 16, controlled by a thermostat (not shown) responsive to a predetermined temperature (135‹ F.) of the air leaving the drum. The plate 11 (apertured at 11a) covers the inlet 12 to a fan 18 which draws air from the drum and discharges it from the dryer at 14. If the solenoid fails, the plate 11 swings under gravity to its open position. The restrictor member may be in the form of a flap pivotable about an axis in the plane of the inlet, or a plate slidable in guides. The restrictor member may be located at the air exit from the drum. The restrictor member may be an unperforated plate controlled by a thermostat operable in stepwise manner to provide continuous adjustment of the air flow. Alternatively, a plurality of shutters may be controlled by a plurality of thermostats each operable at a particular temperature.
