Abstract
1332282 Coil formers PYE Ltd 19 Jan 1972 2538/72 Heading B8M [Also in Division H1] A coil bobbin, made of a plastics material, comprises a barrel having end flanges, at least one of the flanges having an opening to allow the exit of leads from the windings, part of this flange being formed from a resilient material, shaped to receive a terminal carrier and secure it to the bobbin. One embodiment of the invention, Fig. 1, has an opening, 5, cut in one edge of the flange 2. The terminal carrier is inserted into position in a direction parallel to the bobbin axis. The bobbin may be housed within the cavity of a similar but larger bobbin, the inner bobbin may then be wound with fine wire and connected to the mains voltage via a terminal carrier fixed to this bobbin, the outer bobbin being wound with thicker wire, the leads of which are connected to the terminals. The bobbin can be arranged on a transformer core such that one limb of the core passes through the barrel of the inner bobbin. In this case, a moulded insulator may be placed between the winding space of the outer bobbin and the core. The terminal carrier may have a fuse carrier or voltage regulator attached in addition to electrical terminals. A thermal cut-out may also be provided. If necessary both flanges may be provided with engagement surfaces, as described, each for supporting and retaining a terminal carrier, or the terminal carrier may be pivoted at one end and snap in behind the shoulder at the other end.
