Abstract
1331965 Towing eyes NEATE BRAKE CONTROLS Ltd 14 Oct 1971 [21 Oct 1970] 50023/70 Heading B7T To enable tractor and trailer vehicles to be coupled for towing by a coupling comprising a jaw and pin on one vehicle and an eye on the other, when the jaw and pin may be of different standard sizes, two eyes of appropriate dimensions are provided to be readily exchanged one for the other. To this end, a socket 10, Fig. 1, is secured to the vehicle and, in one arrangement, has a tapered and undercut slot to receive a corresponding shank 13 of an eye. The shank may be bolted to the socket. In a modification, the shank is formed with ears to engage end surfaces 25, 26 of the socket. In another arrangement, the socket 10, Fig. 4, has a parallel-sided slot receiving a complementary eye shank 13 secured to the socket by bolts 29. Transverse bars 27, 28 engage the front and rear transverse surfaces of the socket.
