Abstract

1329599 Settling tank cleaning devices J C STENGELIN 1 Dec 1970 56919/70 Heading B1D A rectangular sewage settling tank is cleaned of settled sludge and floating mater by respective plates 7 and 29 which are suspended from a bridge reciprocated along the tank by winch 2, the plates being placed in their operative positions during rightward movement (Fig. 2) and in inoperative positions during leftward movement by levers 15, 16 which engage respective stops 13, 14 on the side of the tank when the bridge approaches either end position. The bridge is mounted on a trolley 3 running along a tubular rail 4 on top of a wall dividing the tank into separate basins. Plate 7 (in each 'basin) is secured to a shaft 27 which carries sprockets 26 connected by drive chains 25 to other sprockets (24) (Fig. 6, not shown) on an upper shaft 23. Chains 25 also support plate 29 (in each basin) between them. During rightward travel, shaft 23 is locked by a pawl 18 engaging one end of a recess 34 in a disc 35 keyed to shaft 23 (Fig. 4), but when lever 15 strikes its stop 13 it pivots clockwise until lug 37 engages pawl 18 and releases the disc 35. Then further movement of the bridge causes lever 16 to engage stop 14 which turns the shaft 23 through 90 degrees, lever 16 being keyed to shaft 23, thereby moving chains 25 to lift plate 29 out of the liquid and pivot plate 7 to the horizontal position, and pawl 19 then engages step 38 of recess 34 to lock shaft 23. Thereafter the bridge engages a limit switch 39 to reverse winch 2 and begin the leftward movement. At the left-hand end of the tank a similar sequence restores the plates 7, 29 to their operative positions and limit switch 40 reverses the winch again.
