Abstract

510,264. Gravity-separation apparatus. BECKHOLM, S. L. Jan. 31. 1938, No. 3015. Convention date, Feb. 1, 1937. [Class 111] A sludge scraper 10 and a 9, 16 respectively turning on skimmer 17 are fixed on arms pivots 8. 15 on a car 5, which is reciprocated on rails 4 over the cutting-tank by a motor 6. As the car moves to the left as shown on the Figure the scraper 10 pushes the sludge into a channel 11. When the car approaches the end of the tank a fixed stop, not shown, reverses the motor 6 or the drive of the car. At the same time an arm 12 meets a stop 13 and lifts the scraper 10 to an inoperative position, in which it is held by a pawl 14. The skimmer 17, which is formed as a float or provided with floats and had previously been held up in an inoperative position by a link 18 connected to the arms 9, is allowed to fall on to the surface of the liquid. It collects floating matter as the car passes back to the opposite end of the tank where an arm 22 fixed to the arms 16 slides on a fixed stop 20 and lifts the skimmer to discharge collected matter into a trough 24. Another fixed stop reverses the drive of the car and the circuit of an electromagnet 23 is closed to release the pawl 14. The scraper falls gradually to the operative position as an arm 21 slides over a stop 19.
