Abstract

1329250 Moulding non - woven fabric BONDED FIBRE FABRIC Ltd 15 Dec 1970 [18 Dec 1969] 61765/69 Heading B5A [Also in Division D1] A mixture of 40 to 80% by weight polyvinyl chloride fibres and 20 to 60% viscose rayon, polyamide or polyester fibres which do not contort or shrink below 150‹ C. is formed into a random web by dry-laying or into a parallel or cross laid web, then impregnated with a latex containing polyvinyl chloride or a vinyl chloride/ vinyl acetate copolymer in which the vinyl chloride content is at least 80% by weight. The fibres are 3 to 4 denier and 1“ to 2¢ inches in length. The latex also contains melamine/ formaldehyde resin, sodium carboxymethyl cellulose, oleic acid, ammonia, an amine hydrochloride catalyst and a phosphate plasticiser. The surface density of the unbonded web, about 1¢oz./sq. yd., is increased by 20 to 50%, by the binder, after drying and curing by passage over heated rollers. The product is mouldable under pressure between shaped moulding pieces at 110-150‹ C. to give shaped articles. The product may be laminated to another fabric by high frequency electric heating.
