1329236 Container traffic ADROLIC ENG CO Ltd 17 Sept 1970 [22 Sept 1969] 46491/69 Heading B8Q A device for transporting containers comprises a platform, Fig. 4, having retractable front 13 and rear 16 legs on which a container (not shown) is supported prior to engagement of the platform with a vehicle chassis, Fig. 2, each front leg being connected by pivotable interconnected links 14, 14a to the platform frame and each back leg similarly connected by links 17, 17a. To mount the platform on a vehicle chassis the chassis is backed below the forward end of the platform such that rollers 12 on the platform engage and run up along ramps (28a), Fig. 1 (not shown), thus raising the legs 13 off the ground and trip ramps 32b on either side of the chassis actuate pins 14b at the common linkage of 14, 14a thus permitting the legs 13 to fold upwardly and rearwardly and run along guides 33 on the chassis until the rollers 12 abut chassis stops 31. To raise the rear platform legs 16 hydraulic ram 42 is actuated to move a crosshead 36 rearwardly which causes pivotally connected toggle links (35), (37) of two toggles 34 to straighten upwardly thus raising the rear end of the chassis rails 27 (shown in dotted lines in Fig. 1 (not shown)), thereby raising the platform rear legs off the ground and also imparting a rearward movement to a slide 41 which movement is transmitted by a crossbar 41a to a sliding carriage 20 on the platform on which are mounted two pulleys at one end one to each of the legs 16 and engaging with the common pivots of the links 17, 17a, and connected at the other end to the platform frame. Rearward movement of the carriage 20 tensions both the cables 19 thus collapsing each of the pair of links 17, 17a thus pulling the rear legs inwardly while a hook (39), Fig. 1 (not shown), of the toggle link 37 lockingly engages a bar 43 of the platform and continued movement of the crosshead 36 results in the rails 27 and platform being lowered to rest on the chassis girders (22), Fig. 1 (not shown). Reversal of the above procedure separates the vehicle chassis from the platform which is left supported on its legs.
