Abstract

1328891 Continuous casting SCHLOEMANN AG 9 Sept 1971 [11 Sept 1970] 42213/71 Heading B3F [Also in Division F4] Apparatus for manipulating a casting ladle for use in continuous casting plant 1 comprises an arm 4 for carrying a ladle 2 at each end and mounted on a pedestal 3 for horizontal rotation and vertical rotary deflection, the latter movement being enabled by rams 17. The arm is mounted by trunnions 11 in a support 10 carried by a base-plate 5 on a turntable 6, the latter being driven by a motor 8 through gearing 9. The rams 17 have part-spherical ends 22 co-operating with abutments 23 and spring-pressed buffers 24 provide seating for the arm 4 in the event of failure of ram pressure. The arm 4 has ends 12 receiving cradles 13 with the interposition of load cells 14 and the ladle stub shafts 16 seat on the cradles. The vertical movement of the ladles enables a delivery nozzle 18 to be easily immersed in the molten metal 20 in a tundish 21.
