Abstract

1328674 Cellulose pulp SOC GENERALE DE BREVETS INDUSTRIELS ET CHIMIQUES SA 25 Sept 1970 [26 Sept 1969 5 Dec 1969] 45881/70 Heading D2W Cellulose pulp is made by treating wood chips with a solution of an alkali metal or alkaline earth metal salt of a phenol or primary aromatic amine in a solvent for lignin having a boiling point above 100‹C at a temperature above 100‹C, and separating the resulting pulp from the solution. Lignin may be recovered from the solution, in the form of calcium lignate by the addition of calcium hydroxide. The salt may be sodium phenate or soidum anilide. Specified solvents include glycerol, ethylene glycol, benzyl alcohol, octyl alcohol, lauryl alcohol, diphenyl, diphenyl oxide, anisole, and esters with boiling points above 100‹C but melting points below 100‹C. The wood chips may be treated either by being suspended in the solution and heated, or by being impregnated with the solution, optionally under pressure, and heated, e.g. by passage of steam through the impregnated chips.
