Abstract

1328474 Lubricants TEXACO DEVELOPMENT CORP 1 Feb 1972 4771/72 Heading C5F Lubricants comprise (1) at least 86 wt. per cent of a mineral oil, (2) 0.01-5 wt. per cent of an alkane phosphonic acid of formula where R is a C 11-40 aliphatic radical in which at least 75% of the C atoms are on a single straight chain; (3) 0.05-5 wt. per cent of an alkylated diarylamine of formula Rx-Ar-NH-Ar<SP>1</SP>-R y where R is C 1-30 alkyl, Ar and Ar<SP>1</SP> are the same or different aryl radical, and x and y are each 1 or 2, or if Ar<SP>1</SP> is naphthyl, y can be 0. The mineral oil may be a mixture of oils (examples given). The lubricant may also contain viscosity index improvers, e.g. polymethacrylates, dispersants e.g. polyamide/alkenyl succinic acid reaction products, corrosion inhibitors e.g. zinc di(alkylphenoxypolyalkoxyalkyl dithiophosphates), and anti-foam agents e.g. silicones.
