1,165,294. Lubricants. SHELL INTERNATIONALE RESEARCH MAATSCHAPPIJ N.V. 15 March, 1968 [17 March, 1967], No. 12777/68. Heading C5F. [Also in Division C2] Lubricant compositions comprise a major amount of a lubricating oil and a minor amount of mono- or di-sulphonic acid salts obtained by the reaction of (a) a di-amide of a fatty acid and a polyalkylene polyamine of the general formula NH 2 -(R<SP>1</SP>NH) n -R<SP>1</SP>NH 2 or a condensation product of such an amide with a C 8-18 alkyl phenol and an aldehyde; wherein R<SP>1</SP> = C 2-4 alkylene, and n is an integer, and (b) 1 or 2 moles of a sulphonic acid, R<SP>2</SP>(SO 3 H), where R 2 is an organic group. In Example IV the compositions include mineral oils (SAE 30, 10W, 10/20W and 20) with conventional additives such as zinc bis(octylphenyl)dithiophosphate, acryloid, polyisobutylsuccinimide of tetraethylene pentamine and various salts of the invention such as the disulphonic acid salt of diisostearamide of tetraethylene pentamine and the petroleum sulphonate derived from a neutral oil.
