Abstract

1327986 Alkane sulphonates TEXACO TRINIDAD Inc 24 May 1971 [18 June 1970] 16658/71 Heading C2C Alkane monosulphonates are produced from C 9-21 alpha-olefins by reaction with aqueous bisulphite with agitation in a mutual solvent at a pH in the range 8-9 and at a temperature of up to 60‹ C. inclusive in the presence of an oxygen-containing initiator, and recovering the alkane monosulphonates from the reaction mass. The mutual solvent may be, e.g., ethanol, N- propanol or isopropanol. The oxygen initiator may be O 2 itself or, e.g., t-butyl perbenzoate. The alpha-olefin feed may consist of unpurified cracked slack wax stocks containing up to 80% by weight of branched olefins. The products showed improved detergency properties.
