Abstract

1327799 Cleaning floors WARWICK PUMP & ENG CO Ltd 29 Dec 1971 [24 Sept 1970] 40664/70 Heading A4F [Also in Division E1] A method of cleaning a floor, airport runway or other surface comprises directing on to the surface water under pressure of at least 50p. s.i. from a nozzle which is in arcuate motion relative to, and transverse to a general direction of advance of, a device carrying the nozzle along the surface and collecting the water after impact with the surface together with removed contaminant. Arms 3 each provided with two nozzles 6, Fig. 3 (not shown) extend radially from a rotary shaft carried by a wheeled chassis 1 propelled by an engine 2 which also rotates the shaft. Water is passed from a reservoir 18 by pumps 17 through chambers 18 heated by burners 20 to the nozzles 6 to be discharged at a pressure of at least 50p. s.i., the discharge being valve controlled to occur only whilst the nozzles 6 travel adjacent an arcuate collecting trough 9. After impact with the surface being cleaned the used water is guided by a flap 12 Fig. 3 (not shown) into the trough 9 from which it passes to a well 11, from which air is removed by a pump 13, and is returned to the reservoir 16 via a filter 14 and pump 15. An alternative embodiment comprising a manually guided flow cleaning machine may have nozzle carrying arms which oscillate instead of rotating continuously.
