Abstract
1324536 Frictionless pivotal assembly BENDIX CORP 14 Oct 1970 [14 Oct 1969] 48878/ 70 Heading E2F [Also in Divisions F2 and G1] In a pivotal assembly, three spaced supports 22, 24, 26 are mounted in a housing surrounding a shaft 34, a rocker member, e.g. 32, is mounted between each support and the shaft, and a flexible band 36 having three sections, e.g. 36b, has each section tautly connected by clamps 38 between a pair of supports, e.g. 24, 26 in such a manner as to partially wrap the rockers 30, 32 and the shaft 34 so as to permit rotation of the shaft relative to the housing about a fixed axis. Each section of the band is connected at points 44 by pins 40 to a rocker and a further section 36d, is pinned to the shaft. The band is maintained taut by springs 42. The band width may be varied. The shaft 34 may be non-circular and the rockers circular. An input means may be connected to one rocker to conjointly roll all three rockers and hence cause relative rotation of the shaft and housing, e.g. in an air speed indicator (Division G1) or a differential gear (Division F2).
