Abstract

1324026 Coating apparatus EASTMAN KODAK CO 5 Oct 1970 [3 Oct 1969] 47287/70 Heading B2L [Also in Divisions D1 G2 and G3] Web or sheet processing apparatus, e.g. for hardening an exposed photographic emulsion and subsequently washing off the unhardened portions, comprises a pair of rollers 18, 20 at least one of which is driven, an endless belt 24 supported by the rollers and of a length so that it sags therebetween, a pair of side walls disposed on opposite edges of the belt to form with the sagging portion of the upper reach thereof a reservoir 40, and liquid supply means 26 disposed above the upper reach of the belt upstream of the sagging portion for applying a curtain of liquid to a web fed onto the upper reach of the belt upstream from the liquid supply means, the reservoir serving to collect the liquid and provide a pool through which the web is carried by the belt. An idler roller 22 or a guide member in the form of a shoe is disposed below the upper reach of the belt. The depth of the reservoir may be controlled by baffle plates disposed at the side of the belt or by overflow openings in the side walls of a tank within which the belt is disposed. The web after leaving the belt 24 then passes to a further endless belt 34 above which are disposed water spray nozzles 36. Alternatively, Fig. 3 (not shown), the web, after passage under a single water spray nozzle, passes into a two trough developing and fixing apparatus of known form where it is passed through the drying section only.
