Abstract
1323871 Marine propulsion unit A B MITCHELL 22 June 1967 [10 Aug 1966] 35878/66 Heading B7V In a marine propulsion unit, water flows through the annular duct 1 attached to the hull by the strut 2. A gas is urged into the mixing chamber 5 so as to form with the water flowing axially through, a homogeneous two-phase and compressible fluid. The homogeneous fluid expands in the duct after portion and drives the turbine 6, 7. The latter is coupled by the shaft 8 to the axial flow pump 3, 4 which injects the water into the chamber 5. The exhaust from the duct exhaust form a propulsive jet. The gas used may be air or gas from a gas turbine. Alternatively, a water reactive fuel may be injected into the water inside the mixing chamber to produce gas.
