Abstract

1322349 Rolling rings J BANNING AG 3 Dec 1970 [5 Dec 1969] 57417/70 Heading B3M Apparatus for rolling a ring R comprises rolls 3 and 7 for rolling the inner and outer surfaces, and rolls 14 and 17 for rolling the end surfaces, the roll 17 being vertically displaceable in response to an increase in the size of the ring, as sensed by a roller 21. The roll 3 is driven from a motor 5 and is adjustable towards the roll 7. Similarly, the roll 14 is driven by a motor 16, and the roll 17 is adjustable towards the roll 14, either hydraulically or by a screw 20. To produce a ring of desired diameter, units 44 and 45 indicate the actual diameter and the position of the support B relative to support A. The values provided by these units are compared with set values of desired diameter and roll wear provided by units 46 and 47. When the measured values correspond with the set values, a relay switches off the roll pressure. An output signal 49 can be used by an operator to control the rolling pressure, or the pressure can be controlled automatically by a computer. A signal lamp or horn can be provided to indicate when the desired diameter is reached.
