Abstract

1322151 Shearing ALCAN RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT Ltd 6 Jan 1971 700/71 Heading B3W To slit metal, e.g. aluminium, strip without producing burr projecting from the faces of the slit strips adjacent the slit edges, strip is scored to form a V-section groove, preferably by scoring discs, on both faces, and sheared along the score line. Bending of the edge zone is prevented or reduced by using stepped shearing rolls 5 which restrain the strip adjacent the score line. A suitable score depth for aluminium or its alloys is 20% of the strip thickness on each face.
