Abstract
1320673 Molecular absorption waveguide cells CAMBRIDGE SCIENTIFIC INSTRUMENTS Ltd 5 Jan 1972 [12 Jan 1971] 1343/71 Heading H1W [Also in Division G1] A absorption cell for Stark-modulation microwave spectroscopy (see Division G1) comprises a rectangular waveguide split along a central plane parallel to the longer sides to form two mutually-insulated halves F which are releasably held in position by axially-spaced clamps G. The waveguide halves F are spaced apart by T-shaped inserts B of PTFE and a clamping force is exerted by leaf-springs L insulated from the left-hand half by pads P of PTFE. The Stark-modulation field is applied between the two halves of the waveguide in a direction perpendicular to the E-plane. The E- plane dimension is over three times the normal value and the absorption waveguide is coupled to waveguides of normal dimensions by transitions tapered in the E-plane (Fig. 2, not shown). The assembly may be located in a gas-tight cylindrical housing H.
