Abstract

1317873 Laminates MILPRINT Inc 21 July 1971 [31 Aug 1970] 34206/71 Heading B5N Molten nylon at 232-288‹ C. is discharged from an extruder 10 into a die 16 from which it issues as a molten web on to the surface of a rotating drill roll 21 and in a circumferential direction relative to the roll and substantially normal to a plane containing the lips of the die 17, 18, a zone A between the molten nylon web and the underlying surface of the wall being maintained at sub-atmospheric pressure, the extruded nylon is cooled on the roll to <93‹ C., to form a transparent web, which is withdrawn from the roll, a surface thereof is subjected to corona discharge treatment e.g. by means of electrode 30 and the nylon is joined to a substrate web with the corona treated surface in contact with the substrate. The substrate may be polyethylene, polypropylene, vinyl or polyester, aluminium foil, paper, cardboard or Cellophane (R.T.M.). Primers e.g. polyurethane may be used to aid adhesion between the nylon and substrate.
