Abstract

1317152 Measuring vibration electrically TRIUMPH MOTOR CO Ltd 15 July 1970 [16 April 1969 19331/69 Heading G1N A device 10 for sensing vibrations of a body 13 for example an axle casing comprises a housing 11 mounted on or arranged to be mounted on the body, a vibratable reed 14 supported at one end thereof in the housing and carrying a strain gauge 17 which gauge is operable to convert deflections of the reed to electrical signals having magnitudes corresponding to amplitudes of vibration of the reed. In a preferred embodiment two reeds 14, 14' are utilized having natural frequencies of vibration differing by 2-3 hertz and the bond between the natural frequencies embracing a frequency or frequencies of which the body 13 vibrating, each reed carrying a respective strain gauge 17, 17' arranged so that the senses of the charges of signal level developed by the gauges will be opposed which signals are fed to a differential amplifier (24) Fig. 4 (not shown).
