Abstract
1,105,794. Measuring strain electrically. VYSKUMNY USTAV AUTOMATISACNICH PROSTREDKU. June 29, 1966 [July 10, 1965 (2)], No. 29194/66. Heading G1N. Apparatus for determining the strain in a wire 21 by measuring its natural frequency of vibration using coils 22, 23 and an amplifier 24, comprises a comparison wire 11 whose strain is adjusted by a lever 14 until it vibrates at the same frequency. A signal from the test wire 21 is fed to the exciting coil 12 for wire 11 to force it to vibrate at the same frequency. A pick-off signal from wire 11 is obtained by coil 13, and the phase of the signals in coils 12, 13 compared at 35. If they do not coincide a switch 37 allows motor 4 to increase the strain in wire 11 by rotating a micrometer screw 15. When they do coincide, indicating that the natural frequency of vibration of wire 11 is the same as the forcing frequency obtained from the test wire 21, the motor 4 is disconnected from screw 15, the angular rotation, which is recorded at 6, being indicative of the strain in wires 11 and 21.
