1316357 o - Tert - alkyl - p - alkoxy - phenols UNIVERSAL OIL PRODUCTS CO 28 Sept 1970 45989/70 Heading C2C Mono - o - tertiary - alkyl substituted palkoxyphenols are obtained by alkylation of palkoxyphenols with tertiary olefins at a temperature below 200‹ C., in the presence of a catalyst consisting substantially of gammaalumina. The process may be carried out continuously or in a batchwise manner. Examples are given for the preparation of 3-tert-butyl-4- hydroxyanisole and 3 - tert - butyl - 4 - hydroxyphenetole.
