Abstract
1316172 Treating tobacco IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 19 April 1971 [23 March 1970] 13867/70 Heading A2C A chlorophyll-free smoking mixture comprises tobacco and a carotenoid, the ratio of carotenoid to tobacco being in the range 1:50 to 1:750. In the examples, shredded reconstituted tobacco sheet is sprayed with solutions of #-carotene, acetate or apocarotenal, and shredded tobacco rag sprayed with a solution of #-carotene. Other isoprenoids specified are α-carotene a naturally occuring mixture of α- and #-carotenes, admixtures of α-, #- and γ-carotenes, lycopene, 15,15'-dihydro-carotene, 4,4'-diketo-15,15'-dihydro-carotene, apocarotenoic acid derivatives, bixin and canthanxanthin. The reconstituted tobacco compositions exemplified are formed from ball milled tobacco together with glycerol, sodium carboxymethyl cellulose, magnesium carbonate and calcium carbonate ,and either potassium citrate or bentonite. In one example, the treated reconstituted tobacco is blended with untreated tobacco rag.
