Abstract
1316118 Shaft couplings SIMMS GROUP RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT Ltd 1 Oct 1970 [10 Oct 1969] 49784/69 Heading F2U A speed-responsive device (e.g. coupling for rotation of two members 15 and 10) comprises a mass 18 arranged to move outwardly under centrifugal force against a leaf-spring 22 of greater curvature than a curved outer surface of the mass, each end of the spring 22 engaging a coiled tension spring 24 (e.g. housed in a bore 23 in the member 15), movement of the mass causing a displacement (e.g. altering the phase relationship between members 10 and 15 due to a block 20 pivoted at 21 to the member 10 sliding in a groove 19 in the mass). The extension of the springs 24 may be limited by engagement with the member 10 to give the resilient bias on the mass a double spring rate.
