Abstract

1316011 Fuel tanks DIAMLER-BENZ AG 10 June 1971 [16 June 1970] 19980/71 Heading B7H [Also in Division B8] A fuel tank 1 has each of its top corners 7-10 connected by a vent pipe 3-6 to an expansion tank 2. As shown, the expansion tank is divided into compartments 11-14, which are connected near the top of the tank and with which respective vent pipes are connected. The venting of fuel vapour from tank 2 or the introduction of air into tank 2 occurs via valve 19 and either line 20 or 21. In a modification, Fig. 2 (not shown), tank 2 is not subdivided, the vent lines lead into the top of tank 2, so that they cannot conveniently act as return lines to tank 1 for liquid fuel which has expanded into tank 2, and a separate return pipe connects the bottom of tank 2 to tank 1.
