1315719 Pipe coupling C E & J P BRITTON Ltd 28 Jan 1972 [30 Oct 1970] 51600/70 Addition to 1225427 Heading F2G In the pipe coupling of the parent Specification the sleeve (1) is permanently retained in the socket 6, by welding the outer ends together thermally or ultrasonically. As shown, a thermostatically controlled heater assembly 14 is brought into contact with a polypropylene sleeve in the polypropylene socket 6 of an elbow 8. As the ribs 12, 13 produce circular grooves in the end faces, the material at the interface of the socket and sleeve merges to form a permanent joint. In another form, an expansible heater ring having annular ridges may be used to unite flange (14, Figs. 3 and 4, not shown) and the socket 6.
