Abstract

1315589 Automatic speed control HITACHI Ltd 19 Jan 1971 [21 Jan 1970 2 March 1970] 2650/71 Heading G3R [Also in Division H2] Control apparatus for a lift comprises high speed and low speed motor systems involving three phase motors HM and LM respectively. The high speed motor is used for accelerating the lift from rest up to a constant travel speed in three steps, each step comprising shorting out three of the resistors Rs using relay contacts. The low speed motor car be switched to either the three phase inputs U.V.W. for normal operation to a rectifier circuit VR which supplies a DC voltage for braking the motor so as to decelerate the lift, the magnitude of the braking current being controlled by the difference on speed between a speed pattern and the actual speed of the lift as determined by a tachogenerator TG. The speed pattern, Fig.3C, is produced by the superimposition of the output of a pattern generator PG, producing a smooth curve by integrating the pulses produced by a series of relays, one associated with each flow, which are deenergized as the lift passes, and the output of an auxiliary pattern generator which produces an impulse waveform. The braking system is inoperative until the lift passes a deceleration starting point at which time the high speed motor is cut off and the low speed motor connected to the rectifier circuit VR. The purpose of the impulse part of the speed pattern is to ensure that when the braking circuit is connected, the pattern speed exceeds the lift speed so that no sudden braking force is applied, the decay on the impulse causing a gradual drop of the pattern speed below the lift speed and hence a smooth onset of braking. When the lift has been slowed to a low speed an electromagentic brake MB is operated to bring the lift to a standstill. In a further embodiment the speed pattern may suddenly be reduced to zero at a time prior to the lift stopping so as to increase the braking during the very low speed period of operation of the motor. The two motors may be replaced by a single multiple motor connected so as to be operable with either 4 poles or 16 poles, to affect high speed and low speed operation respectively, the DC voltage being applied to the 16 pole arrangement to effect braking. Safety cut outs are provided to operate the electromagnetic brake should the lift approach the top or bottom of the duct. Also the high speed motor cuts out if the lift speed exceeds a predetermined limit.
