Abstract

1314995 Hydraulic motors UNDERGROUND MINING MACHINERY Ltd 18 May 1971 [12 June 1970] 28577/70 Heading F1A A hydraulic drive, e. g. for a vehicle, Fig. 1 (not shown), comprises two or more hydraulic motors 10a, 10b, e. g. of radial piston or vane type, one or more of which is or are disconnectable from the supply circuit, and capable of being made to free-wheel when disconnected, thereby providing high torque, low speed operation when all the motors are operating and low torque, high speed operation when one or more is or are disconnected. Free-wheeling is obtained by supplying a control pressure to the motor casing to force the pistons into their cylinders clear of the cam tank, Fig. 2 (not shown), or to withdraw the vanes. The circuit shown comprises a pump 114 supplying hydraulic fluid to motors 10a, 10b via control unit 117. A control valve 120 is operated by pressure in line 122 from a change-speed control to disconnect motors 10a from the circuit, the motor casings being pressurized via check valve and throttle assembly 123 to effect free-wheeling. A relief valve 125 protects the motor seals from excessive pressure.
