1314689 Preparation of vinyl containing compounds AGENCY OF INDUSTRIAL SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGY 16 Dec 1970 [19 Dec 1969(2) 25 Dec 1969(2) 14 April 1970] 59758/70 Heading C2C [Also in Division C3] Compounds of the formula CH 2 = CR<SP>1</SP>R<SP>2</SP> where R<SP>2</SP> is hydrogen or alkyl and R<SP>1</SP> is where n is 0-3, m is 2-4, Z is hydrogen, chlorine, methoxy, methyl or nitro and Y is hydrogen or nitrile are obtained by one of the following reactions in which X is chlorine or bromine and X<SP>1</SP> is -OH, -OLi, -ONa or -OK, or by reacting 4- or 4<SP>1</SP>-hydroxy-chalcone or the alkali metal salt thereof with #-haloalkyl vinyl ether. Reactions are effected in solution in the presence of a base, e.g. pyridine or triethylamine, or a quaternary ammonium salt obtained from a trialkyl amine which may be in excess and an alkyl halide.
