Abstract

1314145 Treating porous articles ROLLSROYCE (1971) Ltd 20 Oct 1971 48670/71 Heading B2E A method of treating a porous article comprises impregnating at least its surface with molten urea which is subsequently allowed to solidify. The impregnated article may be subsequently dipped in a formaldehyde solution to thereby form a waterproof surface resin coating. In an example a ceramic casting core is dipped in a thermostatically controlled urea melt, drained and wiped with absorbent tissues to leave no surplus urea. The impregnated cores are then dipped in a thermostatically controlled bath of formaldehyde solution with a pH of 5 to 6. The impregnating may be carried out by spraying instead of dipping.
