Abstract
1313902 Making tubes; bending DES HAUTS FOURNEAUX DE LA CHIERS SA 9 July 1970 [10 July 1969] 33280/70 Headings B3A and B3E [Also in Division F2] A flexible tube is made from a metal strip 9 having an S- or Z-shaped cross-section by subjecting the strip to a permanent deformation in its own plane such that the edge of the strip which, after formation of the tube, is disposed on the outside of the tube is longer than the edge of the strip, which after formation of the tube, is disposed on the inside of the latter, and helically deforming the strip so that the different coils resiliently engage one another. A plastic tube 2 is unwound from a reel 1 mounted on a frame 3 which is rotated about a horizontal axis. The strip 9 of high strength steel is unwound from a reel 10 by two pairs of rollers 11 and then passed over rollers 13 and 26 which deform the strip into a curve, Fig. 6, so that a helical winding would be effected in the direction F 1 . However the strip is wound on to the rotating tube 2 so that the helical turns are guided in a direction opposite to F 1 by fingers 40 mounted on a plate 27 thus allowing the coils to press resiliently against each other. The plate 27 is adjustable in the horizontal and vertical planes by screws 31 and 35 sliding in grooves 32 and 34 respectively. The formed tube then passes through a rotating feed head 14 and is finally wound on a reel 4 driven by a motor 7 and mounted on a frame 6 rotating about the horizontal axis.
