Abstract

1313604 Making heat exchangers SOC ANON DES USINES CHAUSSON 15 June 1970 [18 June 1969] 28968/70 Heading B3A [Also in Division F4] A radiator core is made by forming a stack of metal fin plates 1a, 1b, 2a, 2b, 3a joined to each other by transverse connections 5, inserting metal tubes 4 through aligned holes 3 in the plates slightly larger than the external dimensions of the tubes 4 and drawing apart the plates so as to form a honeycomb structure and support flanges (3c, 3d) (Fig. 5, not shown) for the tubes 4 formed from the material of the plates surrounding the holes 3. Slits (7) (Fig. 1, not shown) are formed at the edges of the holes 3 to facilitate formation of the flanges (3c, 3d). The fin plates are joined to each other by transverse strips of glue 5 or by welding, brazing or roll bonding, and are drawn apart by grips A, B. In another embodiment, the stack of fin plates is formed by electron beam welding corrugated plates to each other (Fig. 2, not shown). The rectangular tubes 4 may be joined, e.g. by welding, to collector plates 8.
