Abstract

1313027 Coating apparatus S V LEVINE and C HASTALIS 14 June 1971 [24 March 1971] 27690/71 Heading D1L Lines of adhesive are applied to each side of a web of paper 110 by a device 124 which straddles an edge 106 of the web and comprises parallel (transverse to the web) web engaging surfaces with orifices 138 and 146 formed therein (as shown in Fig. 3), the web following a path as shown in Fig. 3 so that it is under tension and free from flutter. The adhesive is fed to the device by a supply tube 126, from which it is distributed to the orifices. A further embodiment (Figs. 5 and 6, not shown) has both orifices at the same level, in a one-piece device having a slot cut in it for the web to pass through. Fig. 1 shows the device mounted in a paper folding machine, the paper coming from a printing press.
