Abstract

1312531 Coating labels BETTER PACKAGES Inc 28 July 1971 [15 Jan 1971] 35424/71 Heading B2L Apparatus for applying adhesive to labels comprises a lower portion 12 forming a reservoir and a cover 14 having a slipway 16 for guiding labels to a feed roller 24 which has a pressure plate 28 urged thereagainst by a spring 30 transfer and coating rollers 44, 46 being provided which apply adhesive to the lower surface of the label. The transfer roller 44 is mounted in arms 48 which are rotatably mounted on pins 52 so that it may be urged into contact with the applicator roller 46 by springs 64. The rollers 44, 46 are gear driven from the roller 24 so that the applicator roller moves faster than the label to produce a wiping effect. The surface of the transfer roller is of spiral construction so that coating medium is transferred to the applicator roller by a wiping action. Fingers 94 are provided to disengage and guide the coated label from the applicator roller. A pouring spout 38 is provided at one side of the lower portion of the casing so that the reservoir can be emptied.
