Abstract

1312278 Pressure-sensitive copying material CIBA-GEIGY AG 16 Nov 1970 [14 Nov 1969] 54404/70 Heading D2B A pressure-sensitive sheet has an under layer of dark pigment, and a top layer of lightcoloured pigment which may be made transparent by the application of a liquid. The liquid, which preferably has the same refractive index as the light pigment, may be microencapsulated and mixed with the top layer or else deposited from a separate sheet. Preferred white pigments include barium sulphate, mica, kaolin, epoxy, phenoplast and aminoplast resins. The liquid is a solvent, either volatile, such as chloroform, or non-volatile, such as tricresyl phosphate. The transparency in the top layer may be fixed by using a liquid which is a stabilised monomer, such as styrene, or a resin. The base material may be paper, or be made from polyester, polyamide or acrylic fibres, or be a foil of cellulose, polymer or metal. Preferred pigment particle sizes, microcapsule sizes, and methods of preparation are described.
