Abstract

1312101 Supersensitized silver halide photographic emulsions FUJI PHOTO FILM CO Ltd 20 July 1970 [21 July 1969] 35144/70 Heading G2C A photographic silver halide emulsion contains in supersensitising combination at least one sensitizing dye of the formula:- wherein R, R 1 , R 2 and R 3 which may be the same or different each represents a substituted or unsubstituted alkyl group; R 4 is H, alkyl or aryl; Z and Z 1 which may be the same or different each represents the non-metallic atoms necessary to complete a thiazole, benzothiazole, naphthothiazole, oxazole, benzoxazole, napthoxazole, selenazole, benzosdenazole, napthoselenazole, thiazoline, 2-quinoline, 4-quinoline, benzimidazole, 3, 3' -dialkylindolenine, 2-pyridine or 4-pyridine nucleus; L is a monomethine group or an aliphatic hydrocarbon chain which may combine with the N-atom in the heterocyclic nucleus containing Z 1 to form a ring; m, n and p each is 0 or 1; d is 0, 1 or 2; X<SP>#</SP> is an anion, the dye forming an intramolecular salt when p is 0; and at least one sulpho compound of the formula:- D - SO 3 M wherein D is a polycyclic aromatic radical (which contains at least one condensed aromatic nucleus or at least two benzene nuclei or other aromatic nuclei which are combined directly with each other or through an aliphatic chain, atom or atomic group) and M is H or a cation forming a water-soluble salt of the sulpho compound. Numerous examples are given of the dye and the sulpho compound.
