Abstract
1309941 Seaming MARDON SON & HALL Ltd 31 Dec 1970 [7 Jan 1970] 715/70 Heading B5K [Also in Division H5] Apparatus for supplying hot air to an adhesive or thermoplastic layer of a carton to render it tacky comprises a preferably resistively heated porous plate 10 through which air is directed to impinge on the adhesive or thermoplastic layer. As shown the plate 10 comprises two acute angle walls 11, 12 joined by impermeable end walls 13 and an impermeable bottom wall 14 to form an enclosed chamber. Plate 10 is formed from woven metal threads which are rolled to form a porous sheet and subsequently bent. Terminals 16 and 17 are provided on end plates 13 and air is supplied to the enclosed chamber by way of pump 22 and if desired an electric pre-heater 21. Separate control of the resistance plate 10 and pre-heater 21 enable cartons to remain in position without scorching by simply de-energizing one heater. The air emerging from the porous plate 10 is evenly distributed over its length and keeps the cartons out of direct contact with plate 10. Pump 22 may be controlled.
