Abstract

1309115 Straightening WEAN UNITED Inc 7 Aug 1970 [8 Aug 1969] 38189/70 Heading B3E A straightening machine for rolled sections comprises support members 13 and 14, Fig. 2, a plurality of roller assemblies 15-17 and 23-26, frames 28, Fig. 3, for rotatably supporting the roller assemblies, and pistons and cylinders 31 for securing frames 28 to the support members so that alternatively the frames can be fixed relative to the support members or be allowed to move relative to the support members in the direction of the path of travel of a workpiece. In each set of the co-operating roller assemblies, i.e. 23, 15, 24 and 25, 17 and 26 the outer assemblies, e.g. 23, 24 are equally spaced from the inner assembly, e.g. 15 and the spacing between the fixed central roller assembly 16 from the adjacent assembly of each set is equal to the spacing in that set. The ratio of wormwheel jack assemblies 77, 78 and 87, Figs. 1 and 2, are selected so that when driven by a motor 82, the pinions of rack assemblies 71, 72 and 84 move the rack assemblies and thus the rollers so that the equal distance relationship of the rollers of the set is always maintained. When an adjustment has been made piston cylinder assemblies 31 are deactivated to lower the frames 28 on to the supports 13 or 14 and a rack 91, Fig. 3, is moved by ram 92 to lock against racks 88 and 89 thus fixing the frames 28 to the supports. The three lower roller assemblies 15-17 are vertically adjustable by worm wheel assemblies 18-21. The entire gear assembly of each of the upper driven rollers 23-26 can be lifted out by disconnecting the coupling 63 to drive motor 42 and using a crane connected to hooks 23a-26a, Fig. 1.
