Abstract

1309062 Suction cleaners HIROSHI FUKUBA 14 Jan 1971 [14 Jan 1970] 1815/71 Heading A4F A suction flow cleaner has a suction nozzle 7 mounted by a horizontal extendible arm 2 on a housing 1 including drive mechanism operative to extend and retrail the arm and rotate it about a vertical axis. The arm 2 comprises a telescopic tube and one end section of which is connected to a steel band 10 which is uncoiled from a drum 12, rotated by an electric motor 3 to extend the tube 2. When the arm 2 is fully extended or is halted by an obstacle a recess 15 in a clutch disc 43 rotatable with the motor shaft 14 disengages from a projection 26 on the drum bottom 24, and the disc 43 is raised to actuate a switch 17 to reverse the motor 13. The steel band 10 is then coiled up until the nozzle 7 is fully retrailed when the switch 17 is again actuated to stop the motor 13. During the advance and retraction of the nozzle 7 dust is drawn therein by a suction device (not shown) in the housing 1. When the motor 13 stops one of two rotary solenoids 18, 19 Fig. 3, (not shown) is energized to rotate a wheel 6 by a predetermined amount to turn the housing 1 either clockwise or anticlockwise. The motor 13 is then again energized to repeat the advance and retraction of the nozzle 7. The latter has pivoted lateral sections 31, 32 Fig. 6, (not shown) which may be deflected when they strike an obstacle.
