Abstract

1308602 Revaporizing liquefied gases FOSTER WHEELER JOHN BROWN BOILERS Ltd 5 March 1970 [5 March 1969] 11777/69 Heading F4P An L.N.G. vaporizing plant for supplying a variable demand consumer line 18 comprises an L.N.G. storage reservoir 12 connected by a line 14 to an indirect heat exchanger 16 containing series connected hot water coils 20a, 20b supplied by a pump 26 which delivers through a heater 24 and draws from a water tank 30 to which the water leaving coils 20a, 20b, is returned at 28; the tank being located below the level of heat exchanger 16 so that when the pump causes to function the water drains from the exchanger 16 and the rate of flow of L.N.G. is responsive to the draw-off rate of vapour. Coils 20a, 20b are relatively located in the liquid and gas space of exchanger 16 and serve to first vaporize and then further warm the vapour prior to discharge into line 18 which contains a constant output pressure maintaining valve 38 and has a branch line 48 including a thermostatically controlled valve 44 for supplying the burner of water heater 24. In operation and assuming gas demand in line 18 to fall, the resulting temperature rise in the gas space of exchanger 16 and hence of a thermostat 52 results in arrest of pump 26, drainage of water from exchanger 16 and closure of a valve 44 by a thermostat 46. A subsequent increase in gas demand results in evaporation of L.N.G. in exchanger 16 followed by a fall in temperature so that thermostat 52 restarts pump 26 and thermostat 46 opens valve 44.
