1308065 Variable-speed gearing DANFOSS AS 1 April 1970 [2 April 1969] 15422/70 Heading F2D The subject-matter is substantially the same as Fig. 3 of the electric motor driven friction planetary gear of Specification 1308064 but the claims are directed to there being at least two sets of planetary wheels arranged concentrically in one plane. In Figs. 1 to 3, two concentric planet sets 3 and 6 (Figs. 1 and 2) or 20, 23 (Fig. 3) are arranged in one plane between an input sun 2 (Figs. 1 and 2) or 19 (Fig. 3) and an output ring 9 (Figs. 1 and 2) or 24 (Fig. 3), the outer planet set carrier 11 or 29 (Figs. 2 and 3) being clutched at 13 or 36 to the input shaft 1 or 15 or braked at 12 or 44-46 to the casing for direct or reduced ratio drive as in Specification 1,308,064. In Figs. 4 and 5, three concentric planet sets 51, 54 and 57 are arranged between an input sun 49 and a ring 61 which may be clutched at 65 to the input shaft 48 or braked at 64 to the casing for direct or reduced drive via the outer planet set carrier 59 fast with the output shaft 60. Some of the planet sets may be of stepped form for greater ratio reduction. The ring gear may be deformed during assembly to facilitate assembly, after which the ring returns to its correct form, the planetary gear parts being firmly united with each other and under a predetermined pressure imposed by the ring.
